DIY Giant Pinboard

I saw the idea on Apartment Therapy (I think) and thought I could use it as a giant pinboard instead of just art. The husband purchased some exterior foam panels (4 feet x 8 feet and $11 each). I cut one down to 4 feet wide by 52 inches tall and I wrapped it in fabric. Husband hung it up on the wall using nails, I started pinning stuff to the new giant pinboard. My desk is a bit more cleared off now.







So, cut out your piece of foam insulation to be the size you want. Cut fabric to fit around it and wrap to the back. Staple gun the hell out of it. Curse a little when the staples sometimes pop out. Hang it up on the wall above your fireplace. Put stuff on it. And then? You have this!

Love it! I've been looking for something to put above our fireplace and this would be great. I'm thinking I could put up random family photos and switch them out periodically. This might have to be a project for my vacation next week!

We had a home energy audit done and it turns out that not only is this pretty, it's functional too. I'd put it on a brick wall and when the auditor used his scanner thing, the area with the pinboard was much better insulated. He was surprised, asked what it was made from, and then we both had a duh moment. Of course the area of wall with the giant pinboard made of insulation material makes the wall insulated.
