Operation Write Home is a two fold cause. Cardmakers from across the world send in handmade cards for soldiers and sailors to write back home to their loved ones in. OWH also collects "Hero Mail", handmade cards which include a note of thanks or encouragement inside. Hero Mail is often distributed to service members who do not normally receive mail from home, as a way to boost morale. The website includes pages for kids to color as well, and heros adore mail from children.
Imagine a world where Hallmark is not "just around the corner". There are heros who have made their own cards on the back of MRE boxes just to send a note home.(Meals Ready to Eat, think of a plain tan frozen dinner style box).
Operation Write Home has two very important restrictions for their cards... they must be handmade, and NO GLITTER. Glitter gets on everything, and is visible by night vision goggles. They prefer cards to be 4.25 by 5.5 inches (four and a quarter inches by five and a half inches), but if you provide an envelope they will gladly accept larger cards.
Some of the most popular themes used most often by OWH are 'I love you', 'I miss you', and 'thinking of you', but blank cards that can be used for any occasion are great.
You can destash handmade cards from swaps, old demo cards, or craft brand new ones. Card parties are a nice way to get friends together after the holiday rush to unwind and craft.
Whatever your opinion of war is, these men and women could really use some support. Thanks for reading this.

I think that this is really great!  I'm excited to have a good reason to just keep making cards!

This is wonderful, and I'm especially touched and inspired by the Any Hero cards, which can be any kind you like and are given to troops who don't get much/any mail.  What a way to do 'happy mail."   Smiley
