I don't own a felting needle, but am thinking of getting one to try it on the dreadettes.
I dont know of anyone that has done it but I was thinking about that a few days ago... I think it would work no matter what stage you are at. But maybe Im wrong

Thanks all!  It will probably take me a couple of weeks on and off to get all the ends crocheted in.  After that I will think about the felting needle.

I haven't checked this thread in a long time, its good to see its still going on. And the pics are beautiful, everyone's hair looks great.

Mine are 21 months old. I started out with a full head of them but as time went on I just kept shaving more off.

Mitsie99, I lOVE LOVE LOVE the black and white dreads.  Mine are just ugh brown, but every time I look in the mirror I am surprised at how long they are.  They will be 5 in February, and there are 51 of them.  Finally, here's a pic!

I'm also posting a couple more of that knitted thing I'm wearing in the knit forum.  It actually makes them look shorter because they are held up high, at this point most of them are waist-length.

I was a head band like yours to keep them out of my face! How would you crochet that?

I haven't had much luck crocheting one, for two reasons.  First, the crocheted fabric is a little too thick and makes my face look weird.  Second, it lacks the eleasticity that knit does, so it's hard to get it to fit right and stay in place.  I have considered crocheting one, though, and using a drawstring or ribbon around the front to hold it on.

you can use a felting needle, it works better on looser hairs.  be gentle with it.
