Here are my knotty dreads, they are pretty new

I used to have long naturally curly hair almost to my rear.  This is how much they shrunk.  I have just recently started putting a little aloe gel on the roots so that it doesnt look sooo frizzy.

Alright since everyone is picture sharing here is a recent one of me and my bf. I love this picture.

I love how this picture shows how different dreads can be. His are messy and left alone while mine are less messy since I do maintenance. But in all honesty I love his dreads as much as I love mine. Messy, congoes, clumpy, lumpy, long, short, fat, skinny, maintained, natural, backcombed... whatever... dreads are dreads.

sassysword:

They look marvelous! Just gorgeous.

I just wanted to say thank u naked_ninja...i've been researching my butt off about dreads and whether I want them, how to do it, what to use, etc. and your posts/links on here have been VERY helpful! I put them in 5 days ago, and I'm lovin it...the only problems I'm having are around my hairline. In the back, along my neck, my little wispy hairs won't stay in. Is this normal? And what can I do about it? Should I just use the crochet hook method (can someone post a "crochet hooking your dreads for dummies" step-by-step on here--that would be very helpful for newbies like myself  Wink) or should I wait until they're a little more mature? Also, I'm getting very frustrated with my hairline in the front. On the sides of my face (right in front of my ears), the roots are really loose....I've tried redoing them but they just loosen up again. Any ideas? And one last thing...the dreads in my bangs are pretty skinny; will this cause any problems down the road? My bangs are approximately 4 inches long and were razored before I dreaded them so there's lots of different lengths in there.
Thanks so much to everyone who's posted so far...you've all been really helpful. And the pics have been nice, especially the ones that show the lock progress. Everybody's dreads look great!

the little hairs are always a problem... mine always found a way out of my dreads Sad its VERY normal I'd say everyone with dreads will have this problem atleast in the beginning.
thing is, those little hairs dont seem to grow much at all, so what you could do is tie them in (sorta thread them thru the dread and tie the dread at the beginning with a band of some sorts) or wax them into some place u like or like my brother did to me shave them.. id advise the shaving to men only, it felt awfull when it grew back Sad

as for the roots on the side of your head, try holding the dread straight against your head and then turning it to make it knot, the same applies for every loose rooted dreaddy... hmm ive seen a tute kinda thing for this method.. lets see.. foud it here:

Hope that might help always worked a charm for me!
