Recycled Paper Christmas Tree *Lots of Pictures!*

Last year I broke up with my boyfriend of five years during the first week of December.  While it was a good decision for me, it left me feeling a bit out of sorts and I ended up throwing away every Christmas decoration I had two weeks before the holiday.  This year I realized that I was in need of a tree.  I was about to buy one, but whilst watching Charlie Brown's Christmas special I got an idea: why not make a dinky little tree myself?!  So, I did.

 I used a bunch of rolled up magazine 'rods' that I had put together over the summer when I was attempting to make a recycled paper blind.  I ended up giving up on it because it was too heavy and I got bored with the project.  
What the tree was born from:


A few Christmas movies later.  I had a Christmas tree made entirely of reused magazine paper and glue.  LOTS of glue.  








For the topper I made an origami paper star out of about 14 pages of a Zelda Twilight Princess strategy guide.








It was pretty frustrating at times because the weight was too heavy up top and I didn't plan the structure well enough initially.  I used little one inch pieces of the rods as supports.  Also, help from my cat Nico jumping over it and batting at the branches didn't help much.    However, after a lot of hot glue and trimming it's very stable.
