I think it would be great if there was another subcategory to the TRINKETS AND JEWELRY section for silversmthing/goldsmithing.  There's probably not enough demand for it yet though.  Maybe in the future?  It seems like it's growing in popularity.

I love the idea of a metalsmithing board!  I can get some ideas from the other jewelry postings, but it would be nice to have a place to share ideas specific to metals.

I find the jewellery board sort of cluttered now.  Almost everything is about beading, even though there is suppose to be a separate section for that sort of thing.

agreed. i get so frustrated when i go there and its like NEW STERLING SILVER NECKLACE!!! and i am like wow! another metalsmith! then it is like...a pearl necklace with a silver clasp.

I would love a metalsmithing board I came in here to request it glad to see someone already has

But I'm not sure it should be part of jewellery though, just because there's lots of things metal is used for craft wise so maybe a board to itself would be good?

Yeah, I'd really like to see a metalwork board.
Although I make a lot of beady stuff and whatnot, I also silversmith, and a place to talk about that would be great.
'Cos, to be honest, I get a little frustrated when all you see is 'Look, I put a bead onto a headpin and it made earrings!! WOW!!'
Like, right now, I have a pressing bezel question...and not really anywhere to discuss it.

Hi!

I was thinking about something for quite a while. It isn't the most popular type of craft around, but wouldn't it be nice to have a metal working board on here? Not just for welding & forging, but all those sheet metal embossing and wire bending projects too. Metals have an important place in crafting, after all, and I think it would be great to be able to put those projects somewhere else than in miscellaneous topics ^^

I'd second this... I make chainmail and it's def not always jewelry - and I'm wanting to learn to weld really bad!

I'm working on a revised 'idiot's delight' chain for myself and some piecework for a leather artist friend right now...
I think we might be in the (non jewelry) metal minority tho, so I guess we're gonna be stuck with Misc Comp Projects for a while till lots more folk pipe up

Now that I've found where all your metal workers hang out - can I ask - where did you learn metalsmithing? I want to learn desperately how to make beautiful metal crafts, but I cant seem to find any courses near me (vancouver, BC, maybe I'm googling it all wrong).

Tips? Suggestions?
