Abundance of Embroidery thread craftalong-2011 Ongoing

I would like to harness fellow embroiderers/cross stitchers in a mission to rid/lower our supplies of certain overstocked colours (so that we can have room to purchase more) .

My hope for this stitch along is that we can inspire each other with themes and creations so that we can all have perfect thread selections.
We can also admire each others lovely work.

To start things off - I have far too much pink embroidery thread.  I am not a fan of pink so struggle to use it in projects.  I would appreciate some inspiration in how to use it so that I can make more room in my embroidery case for nicer (in my mind) colours.

This isn't my craft buuuuut I was curious!  So I had a peek.  When I came across this comment, I knew the perfect thing!  At least, in my mind.  If you wanted, you could make and sell embroidered whatever for Breast Cancer awareness and then donate   (I'm trying to do that with my clay when I get my stock back up to par!!!)  Anyway, just my suggestion :p

and I thought I was the only one who had more thread than I could possibly need! I just buy bigger  boxes to keep them in! I think this would be a great craftalong for me, count me in!

I am all for any kind of destashing...I have inherited so much thread and want to learn more about embroidery by doing...I have so much brown, for some reason...I found the cutest acorns so I think I am starting there...

I think with Valentines day coming, I would definitely use the pink for hearts!

hurray! Im glad Ive found some fellow destashers. 
I was a little bit naughty and started destashing green (I think I have lots of that too) and will get a progress pic up soon.
I am definately going to take on your suggestions for the pinks though. 
@Groperesponsibly I really like the idea of doing something for charity because then two people win.  So breast cancer awareness is top of my list.  It should also give me made me think that my purple threads could well be destined for a Parkinsons society supporting project as that is another cause that is important to me.
@always in my room.  Hearts and valentines are also genius ideas.  As it gives me plenty of time to get to work.
Cant wait to get stitching (and to post my , albeit green, progress so far).

So yesterday I ran across this, and bookmarked it mostly because I liked the picture at the top (GENIUS way to store floss). Then I spent the rest of yesterday sorting my thread and attempting to recreate said picture...

WOW I HAVE A LOT OF THREAD!

So now I'm joining because this is ridiculous. I have almost 100 individual colors, and doubles (and triples and quadruples) of a lot of them... And that's just the DMC floss! I have MORE off-brand stuff too!!! I keep buying stuff for projects I never finish!

I think I'm not going to stick to a certain color, but just try for a general de-stash...

I am addicted to silk embroidery threads so I am trying to destash mostly the cottons from various cross stitch fails...I plan to use a lot of my threads for Teesha Moore Pillows...congrats on organizing your threads!  I might work on more projects if mine were not all thrown into the bottom drawer...

I am inspired to organize before the new year...maybe spend some of my holiday time wrapping like that...is that the best way to organize? Any other organization ideas?

I actually am working on organizing our whole room right now (and next up, THE HOUSE). I found a couple of really GREAT websites. My new favorite is http://craftystorage.blogspot.com/ - it's a blog devoted completely to craft rooms, and how people store their crafting supplies!!

Also, for my first project, I'm working on http://www.twdesignworks.com/Free/ccross.html that design for my fiance's mom for Christmas. It'll push my boundaries some, because all I ever do is straight cross stitch, either full or half, so doing something with some neat patterns, backstitching, and even some beads is new territory for me. Substituted a couple colors, but they're really similar, so I think it'll turn out alright. Finished my grid and the first color today.

here's my stash

100 DMC threads plus some somewhere else for something I'm working on... maybe 6 more, plus non brand/randoms in the top left corner and duplicate skeins below them...

I am inspired to organize before the new year...maybe spend some of my holiday time wrapping like that...is that the best way to organize? Any other organization ideas?

I find this the best way to organise... my gran showed me a thrifty way to wrap thread for a kit, by cutting a length of cardboard from a cereal box and putting the required number of notches either side, quite handy to kep the whole project together... but I found I started to double up and then started buying whole skeins.
