I made my friends some coasters out of our favourite magazine: New scientist!

inspired by this thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=232043.0  I made each circle using PVA, hot glued them to make the coaster (I placed random sized circles in a 10x10 cm square til I liked it and my mug didn't fall over) then finally coated them all with a PVA/water mix for fluid resistance.

I love those.  It is such a clever idea.  New Scientist is our favourite magazine too.  Only problem is I doubt I'd be allowed to cut one up  Roll Eyes

Thank you all, you are very kind. New Scientist is not just mine & my hubby's favourite, it's also the favourite of the couple they're a gift for.

This is great! I want to make some, but as those things you put hot dishes on when you're serving. Heat pads? I guess? I wonder if they would be strong enough to hold the weight, though. Maybe after coating them, they'd do better?

They take the weight just fine. I used one that we (me and my friend's 10 yr old) made together for ages. the only reason I stopped was because I hadn't coated it and it got caught out in the rain when I moved house. It disassembled  Cry. Because you make e'm to size they can fit every dish you've got. Smiley
