I tried it last night, but the crayons don't fit in either of my 2 mini glue guns (they are a tiny bit too big around)   

My small glue gun didn't fit the crayons either so I cut them down on the sides - took way more time than wanted - you are better off buying a bigger glue gun.  Its worth the price of a couponed on from Micheals or such.

I never thought of putting crayons in a glue gun, looks like you have much more control than using a heat gun to melt them, I will have to try this method now, thanks for sharing!
