I made this for my partner in the Advent Calendar swap. (CabinArts, if you don't want to see what your calendar will look like on Dec 25, don't scroll down Smiley).

This is made from pieces of driftwood that I found on my parent's beach near Seattle. I scrubbed the heck out of them, gave them a bleach bath, a rinse and then let them dry for a few days. I then painted them to look like little houses and trees. The outlines are done with a Sharpie marker.

Once I had all of the houses painted, I sanded the back of them flat and glued on a clothespin.

For the actual calendar, I modified a thread spool holder. Mr Lime helped me to saw the back legs shorter so it would sit straight. Then we hacked off the top row so there would be closer to 25 pegs. I used a 1/2" circle punch for the paper dots and stamped the numbers on.

Each day, my partner unwraps a new house or tree and uses the clothespin to clip it to the calendar. By Christmas, she will have built a whole village!

Thanks for looking! Let me know if you have any questions!

This is wonderful! I have an small stockpile of driftwood from when I lived closer to the beach. I am inspired now!

And out of curiosity, the last house's roof is cut out of the picture... is that a huge chimney? Is there a Santa involved?

Thanks for sharing Smiley

Thank you!!

It's just a big huge chimney Smiley. I thought about making the Christmas day piece a Santa face since the shape would be similar. I couldn't manage to mix a good facial color so I gave up on the idea Smiley. It would have been cute to put a little Santa in the chimney though!!

I think it looks nicer as a village piece (makes more sense, and consistency is nice).

Thank you guys, so much!

I kind of want to do a Halloween version next year - with spooky trees and haunted houses. I think I need to let some new house shaped driftwood wash up on the beach first Smiley.
