over the last two weeks I have been trying to teach myself to knit beyond the basics I already knew (cast on, cast off, knit, purl) and to read patterns.

here is my cable sampler which I extended into a stocking decoration lol.
I know my tension is a little off in places, and I'm not as neat as I should be, but it's amazing to me that I can now do this!

I made it up as I went along.

That looks great! I just tried cables too and I was always intimidated by them, but they aren't that hard at all. I like how you made it into an ornament!
