So, I am getting ready to get started on my first project. I downloaded the pattern, I looked on the website on how to do the various stitches and I am just about ready to get started. There is one problem, how do I know what stitches to use? When to use what stitches or what not. Am I missing something?

That's completely up to you. I mainly use a split stitch. Just thread that needle and go!  Cheesy

I like using backstitch. Though recently i've started to use stem stitch for curvy lines.  Really it is whatever stitch you like.

Thanks for your replies. I just had remembered my mom having little marks on her patterns telling her what stitches to use, so I was confused.
But I just went to it. And here you have it my first attempt....

I think it looks really good - the type of stitch you use isn't that important really.
