I've found a pattern I love: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wicker-circle-scarf
(Mine don't look the same, I used a diff weight yarn I think)

First I made this with a ball of yarn from a friend--missing the ball band, of course, but it reminds me of candy canes...

So I finished that one Sunday night and started this one Monday at work, which I finished this morning, only decided it would look nice as a slouchy hat, so I k2tog when I thought it was long enough and strung the tail thru the remaining sts. Here it is...

And a side view:

Both aren't as tight as I'd like but they're still great (my fault for forgetting to check gauge...) and I actually made the hat with a friend in mind (and his head is a bit bigger than mine).
I think I'm going to stick to the same pattern for the rest of my Christmas knitting, because I can usually make a hat a day at work.
As always, C+C is welcome!

Very nice, I love the hat-from-cowl.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.
