Mirror Mirror on the Wall

A few years ago, I found a hideous mirror on the side of the road. It was faux wood grain paper stuff over partical board, with water damage at the bottom... peeling paper, you get it.... I rarely take before pictures, because, well... I never think of it until I am halfway through, and then I am having too much fun to stop!

Anyway, I sanded, primed, and painted. During the process, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I thought ,"Hello self! Hmm... what do I want to think when I look in this mirror?" Then I remembered my grandmothers saying. She told me, when I was an angsty teen, to look in the mirror everyday, and say to myself, "Every day in every way, I get better and better." I did it, and it really did help change my attitude about myself and my life and how to be a more positive person. Of course, that is what I will think when I look in this mirror, and hopefully so will anyone else, because I painted the phrase on the bottom inside edge of the frame. Anyway, enough story, on to the pictures!

That is gorgeous!  Did you also paint the doorway to your dining room?  I like how the blue and green link the spaces.  Is that a quilt on the wall?  I think I like your entire house!

Thank you Aliped! I did paint the doorway, and I like that the blues match between it and the mirror.. The quilt in the background is actually a patchwork curtain. it opens like a roman shade. I have a few of them around, but that is probably my favorite because it has bits of the childrens' clothing from when they were little!

I agree. And I just might start saying that phrase to myself, because even though I'm not an angsty teen anymore, I find myself wanting to be more positive! (and I also like the reflections in the mirror, because I'm secretly a snoop and love looking into people's houses!)

No need to be an angsty teen to benefit! I sing it to myself in this mirror now, and hold my kids in front of them and sing it to them too. They pretend to be tired of my singing, but I catch them singing it to themselves now too.. BWAHAHAHa! My plan to turn them into good humans is working!!...

Well, that's just lovely! And a wonderful message to pass on down through the generations (I see the hand of a wee one there ).
You know, there's an exercise where you gaze into your own eyes in a mirror and say "I love you" that's nearly impossible for many people to do. The power of positive self-affirmation can't be minimized. Your gran gave you a tremendous gift with that phrase. <3
