I found an old coke crate full of Nehi soda bottles at the auction for $3!! And then...I turned it into a foot stool.
To make it all I did was paint the crate, grout the bottles into the four side slots on the crate. Then I flipped it upside down, put cushioning on it and covered it with cute bandana fabric and touched it off with a white ribbon.

It actually is really sturdy because the crate had individual holes for each bottle so I filled the grout in around the bottles them poly'd the grout so it wouldn't crack. She holds up well

that looks cool!

however, I would be so afraid to put any weight on it. like, if I knew you and came over to your house, the last thing I would ever do is get near it for fear of breaking it. heh

It actually works really well as at ottoman type foot-stool. I also would not suggest standing on it, like if you knew me and came over i would not let you for fear of a lawsuit when you get injured. lol

maybe strength increased if you based the bottles in something ? or used some kind of internal reinforcement. looks awesome. by the by, but i worry about glass- on ground after a while.

You might try to find some caps that fit (that should have stayed standard over the years?), then glue the tops of the caps to some kind of not-horrible-looking furniture leg disk.  Then perhaps fill the bottles with something to increase the weight (plaster of paris dyed coke-colored?) and glue the caps on nice and tight.  Should increase the sturdy factor by a tidy margin...
