I just updated udandi's featured DIY project with my wooden game board turned tray.

I had been on the look out for an old cabinet door that I could attach handles to make into a tray, but then I stumbled upon this wooden frame at the thirft store so I put on a clear coat and handles.  The notch on the back is great for hanging it up when it's not in use.

Total cost: $5

I absolutely love your tray idea!!  It's amazing the things you can come up with!!

I always see those old metal chinese checkers "boards," but I never know what to do with them.  Now I do!!  I would just switch to a metal frame & use bolts.  Very awesome!  Thank you for posting!!

Here's another really cool project where you make an end table out of an old board game:

http://www.fleatique.com/articles.asp?id=1005

It comes from a book by Jennifer Knapp called:
Retro Revamp
It's such a cool book!  It's pretty easy to find in the craft section of a book store.

(The link above doesn't give credit to the book even though they scanned the picture from it and copied the instructions.  ...so wrong...  But anyway, that's what it looks like.)

Thanks ladies!

It's one of those things that I'd like to make more of, which means I'll probably have a hard time finding more wooden game boards Sad

There are so many great wooden game boards on eBay right now, but they're so darned expensive!

I love this one, but it's at $51 right now which is crazy.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3149284205&category=1184

Another cool idea (which I saw in this month's issue of Budget Living) is to tack the game boards up on the wall as decoration. With a nice variety of vintage boards, it looked really cool. Unfortunately the website doesn't have any photos.

(And no, I don't work for the magazine-- so I am not trying to make you run out and buy it!  Wink )

Or.....I have seen people turn the scrabble board letters into magnets by gluing magnets on the back. Hang the board on the wall and you have an instant message board!

I just saw an old episode of Room by Room where they made a large hallway into a game "room". very  fun ideas. game boards on the walls, and a large diamond paint technique which used wooden checkers to accent the mid-points ! wish i knew the episode # now.

An answer from Heaven has just fallen into my lap,

I won a beautiful Six Million Dollar Man board game from eBay and now my friends, I know EXACTLY what to do with it.

Thank you (sniff) I'm getting all vah-mished...
