That is so super cool! All the ones you linked to are as well, amazing. I don't quite understand why they aren't filled in to be squares or rectangles to help them keep their shape and make them a bit more usable but they still all look terrific.

@craftylittlemonkey, the holes in the Granny squares make the fabric softer and better to drape, that works well for a blanket. They should hold their shape quite well though, the edges themselves are quite stiff.

@zoeybear, there are whole sites dedicated to pixel sprites, you might find something cute there. If you want to pixelate your own pic, try some of the free online cross stitch pattern makers (my advice is to try more than one because they give very different results).

That's not what I meant, I meant adding more granny squares so the entire blanket is a square or rectangle. The design seems to get lost unless the blanket is laying totally flat. They look great but the irregular shape of all of them seems a bit awkward to me. I guess I'm just a practically minded kind of girl, plus I'd want to use an afghan on a bed to display it but also to keep warm. They're interesting as art pieces though .

That's amazing. I always pledge Team Bulbasaur for the Pokecrawl at PAX East. I do a lot with cross-stitch and sprites, so the granny squares make a lot of sense to me. Have you considered filling in with background, off colour squares, to square off into a traditional blanket shape? I loved your other blankets as well. Truly amazing work.
