I just signed up for the FABRIC JEWELRY SWAP http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=395855.0   and thought while I was waiting for partner day I would try making some fabric rings.....here is what I came up with....

I started off by machine sewing the strips of fabric... start with the strips double the length that you will need so that you don't have the starting and ending of the thread showing on the finished ring.. because the strips are so skinny, the feed dogs had a hard time .... By the second one i realized that it helped if I left enough behind the foot to hold on to and pull it a little if it wasn't feeding itself ......I then trimmed them to the size I needed and used fabric glue... after the glue dried I added the embellishments....I think the next time I would do all the little detail before i glued them.....I did a blanket stitch around 2 of them to reinforce the ends I had glued... and the other ones I used invisible thread to sew the ends together.

I think that my favorite is the green one with the little bead flower ....

thanks for looking!!!

Those are super great! Maybe I'll try making some sometime.
When you said you use fabric glue, do you glue them into a circle with the fabric glue?
I also like the bead flower one the best, but it's a close contest!

the fabric glue was only used to form the circle.... the rest was sewn by hand or on a machine....

Oo, super cute!  I wonder how it would turn out if you sewed the two ends together, and then glued ribbon around the inside (might be too complicated, hmm).

I tried sewing one into a circle but it looked super messy and ended up crooked... I guess that since they are about 4 stitches wide its hard to get the ends lined up and a clean seam

those are great rings, onegroovyday!
it looks like you used sturdier upholstery cotton fabric vs quilting fabric (?) so they keep they're shape but the feeddogs get ticked off Wink

hooray for fabric jewelry!

hooray for fabric jewelry!

it is just regular quilters cotton... 4 layers of it .... But skinny enough that only one side of the feeddogs would grab it....

OGD - I would really really love you forever if you would just send me the green one with the little beaded flower on it.  Smiley  Ha, how's that for begging?!  Cheesy

Your rings are awesome - I also like the one with a covered button??   Smiley
