DH and I eloped shortly before the start of this year. He was about to go on a year long job and we wanted to be married before he left. We kept the elopement a secret for a while, but then everyone found out and now we are going to have a small vow renewal ceremony when he gets back. He still wants something that resembles a wedding, and I want to make my dress.

I'd like to make a dress that is semi-formal in a silk or satin fabric (absolutely no chiffon!), but I dont want something that screams "I will only wear this once!". Any ideas on that, ladies?

Also, I plan on making the invites (colors are grey, pastel pink, and apple green) and was thinking of flat cardstock with printed vellium, is that very expensive?

I'm sure you've figured it all out by now, but when my husband and I got married this year, we printed our own invites on flat cardstock. We got a lot of compliments on them and there was really nothing to it.

For the dress, if you're not drafting a pattern yourself, patternreview.com is a great site to search for patterns, check out ones might be interested in (people post photos of how each pattern turned out for them), or just for ideas in general.  I heard printing on vellum is tricky but I haven't tried it myself.
