Will this be an outdoor event? This certainly changes the game a little.

If it's outdoors I would go with a super light, breezy fabric or even tulle. Tulle is (I think?) just plastic anyway so it shouldn't get all weighed down by absorbing water if it rains. It's also very light so it won't add stress to your frame.

When it comes to the frame, keep it simple. The more you do, the more that could go wrong. A simple four-posted frame of PVC or metal which can be pulled apart into sections to transport. Having a square one may add to the strength and simplicity. Gather the fabric in the centre and have four pieces down the sides to be gathered. No major fuss and should still be very pretty.

Yes I was hoping for an outdoor wedding. I was thinking May (after the April showers, right?). June in Georgia starts getting a little hot. I will definitely make contingency plans in case Mother Nature decides to rain on my parade... or wedding, as it were.

I'm gonna hit the fabric stores this weekend and see what feels flowy and romantic. =D

Wouldn't know - I'm not American. Is there a chance of rain or is it pretty much guaranteed to be hot? That will effect fabric choice. Curtaining can be a price sensitive choice. Also, check with some venues if thay have one to hire. It might just work out for you.

I wanted to share the Chuppa we made for one of my kids. It is welded (hope that's spelt right) we used metal pipes and just stuck them into the ground. The top part is a square with little pieces of metal that fits into the four poles (that go into the ground) We then took meters of fabric obtained from a fabric factory and just wrapped the poles and the top. Sounds difficult but was very easy.  After the wedding we simply left the Chuppa for anyone that wanted to use it and it's been used many a time since then. Here's what we did:

Hope this helps. At my DD wedding the Chuppa was a little different and I sewed the middle part of the Chuppa. We handed out squares of fabric to family members and they "crafted" the square and I sewed them all together to form the "roof" of the Chuppa...just another option.
