Digiscrapping & printing albums?

I am totally new to the world of digital scrapbooking, but I have a Christmas gift project I'm working on that I need 2+ copies of, so I'm doing it digitally. The problem is, I have no idea how to get it from the digital album in my software to printed format. How do I print it when I'm done? I assumed I would use something like Shutterfly and order a photo book, but will my software save individual pages, or does it just save as an "album"? And if it saves as an "album," then how would I get it uploaded to something like Shutterfly in a printable format?

Can someone baby step me through this? I don't want to get too far into this project and find that I can't complete it the way I thought I could, and have to start over!
