Magic!  This is really beautiful, thanks for sharing. 

Do the colors of the original ties just get washed out? 

The colors just don't transfer at the full (original) intensity. Also, some color transfer more strongly than others, so a multicolor print can look very different after transfer.

That's such a fun idea!  It would give something a very bohemian/gypsy look!  So cool!  I will have to try this!  I've seen seen/heard something like this done on easter eggs as well.   You just wrap the fabric around the egg and it transfers the colors to the egg.  Thought it was relevant since we are nearing easter!  ^_^
