CAN'T RESIST OATMEAL COOKIE BARS

1 cup melted butter
1 egg
1/4 cup milk or water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup loosely packed brown sugar
1 yellow cake mix
3 cups of minute (instant) oatmeal

Add ins: optional, any combination...
1 cup of baking chips ( white or butterscotch work best)
1 cup of raisins plumped by soaking in warm water for 10 mins
1 cup of nuts
Diced apples or dried fruit

Directions

Add all of the main ingredients to a large mixing bowl and blend with a mixer.
Batter will be thick and very sticky
Add mix ins and stir with a spoon, or wait until after the dough is spread to sprinkle them on top and use the spoon to push them into the batter
Lightly oil a large baking dish or two 9x9 pans or if you want very thin bars spread it out on a high sided cookie sheet
Press the dough down so there are no gaps

Bake at 350* for 15 minutes and check to see if they are done, they will be very moist and are done when the top is lightly browned, if need be allow to cook a few minutes and check again.

Remove from the oven and allow to stand for at least an hour until totally cool and they have settled into a thick somewhat dense bar.
Cut into slices and serve or wrap in plastic wrap.
If you use a foil pan you can just cover it with foil and freeze the entire pan.

A quick finish today...  Some pine cone ornaments.

Also three pillowcases that had to get packed to catch a ride at 3 am.  Ugh.  No pics of those, but there are 3 more to do tomorrow.

I just printed off your recipe Trina!!  I love oatmeal and I have found that if I only use recipe from Craftster cooks, that they turn our great for me...I like simple and delicious foods that I can make without burning down my house! Cheesy

Silvermoon--you are such a fast crocheter!  You can do AstroBoy before Christmas!!  I have a hat I am almost done with, but it has a weird bind off that makes the hat square so that dreadlocks can fit easily inside...argg...I hate trying new things when I am under the gun!!

waggonswest...I forget how beautiful a simple glittered pinecone can be!

katara...I saw that you were making sock monkeys again!  I would stuff the arms and legs and leave about an inch unfilled at the ends...pin them to the body and squish them together...to the inside of the body...sew the body together leaving a hole at the top or bottom of the body...turn inside out, stuff the body and then you only have the one opening to sew inside of all the arms and legs...You can do the same with the tale if you make the back two parts...that is how I do stuffies like that as I hate to hand sew!!

An old one from my list-make gazpacho! Yep, in december. And a blurru picture as proof. Cheesy
V8, fresh tomato, diced carrot and bell pepper, basalmic vinegar, a tiny bit of sugar, hot sauce, basil, a little lemon juice, minced onion and garlic. Made two bowls full, which we snarfed right up.
