Lovely bookmarks, jillybeans!

Today so far I've done a bit of knitting and made some St. Patty's Day cards. Since the cards are for Craftster people, I'll wait to post a picture. I'm hoping that this weekend will be full of crafting, since I'm not working for once. I don't know if anything will be completed, but I have a lot of WIP stuff to work on!

ChrisSews: Cute cat! I also agree, I COMPLETELY feel you should add Charcuterie on your list. I am super impressed/jealous that you have been teaching yourself techniques I pinned the book you used! My OH and I have to do everything from scratch because of my allergies and we love Charcuterie so I would love to add it to my to do list as well!

If you like Charcuterie or just making food from scratch you should check out this book (I bought the Kindle version and it works well in that format).  There are lots of recipes and all the ones we've tried have turned out really well.  But even better is that the author takes the time to explain why things need to be done a certain way and ways you can safely modify the recipes.  Tells you things like for certain sausages there needs to be an X meat/ X fat/ X salt ratio and if you follow that you can play around with different types of meat and spices.  Or why cures need a certain % salt or sugar.  Things like that.

Yep the embroidery is done by machine...just a regular sewing machine though not an embroidery machine.  Basically you use the free motion setting and 'paint' with the thread.  I started by printing the design onto one of those printable cotton fabrics.  I then filled in the trees using a modified zig-zag stitch, outlined the mountains and clouds with different colors of thread using just a straight stitch, and used a machine 'knot' stitch for the raindrops. I've seen some amazing thread 'paintings' done using these techniques and wanted to try it out.   

Ooh I forgot about the WA embroidery - Love it! I'm originally from Seattle and I miss it a lot. Though I think there should be some mountains on the west side of the state  Wink I miss mountains!

So maybe I missed a few mountains...it's just a representation.  Or maybe you just can't see the mountains through all the rain!   My husband told me i I should have put sagebrush and grass on the eastern side not pine trees.  I told him pine trees are easier to make and I'm sure there are at least a few pines everywhere in the state.

ChrisSews: I think the sagebrush & grass would be between the pine trees & mountains. I live in Eastern WA and I'm surrounded by Pines. But I loved your embroidery And Wow! that you could do that on a normal sewing machine. I tried doing free motion sewing on my machine a couple days ago but I could'nt get it to work.

Here are my finished socks. I have a bag full of leftover bits of fingering weight yarn and none of them is enough for a whole project. So I made these first with some fair isle color work.



I really like them but I wanted to make a second pair that are both stretchier and taller to keep me warm. So I made these. They're just striped - no stranding or anything like that.
