ChrisSews-it might be because I'm on my phone but I can't tell what's on the unpatterned side of the banner-messages to the baby? It looks so cool! I also love your other projects. Lots of sewn goodness!

Yes they are messages.  I cut out squares or rectangles from printable, iron-on fabric sheets and have a stack of them and permanent markers at the shower.  All the guests write a message for the mom/baby on the squares.  Then they're ironed on to the banner.  You could iron them on 1st but since I never know exactly how many people are going to be there it's easier to just have the squares loose so it doesn't end up with any blank squares or if there are a lot of people the squares can be cut in half and then doubled up when ironed on the banner.

I Love your monkey, katara! That reminds me-
I made a digital Christmas card from a photo of the original sock monkey pattern! My Publisher file was laid out like this, and fits perfectly to cut apart. I may go back and insert a light background behind the text to get the text to pop up.
 Here it is:

I also finished a tallit bag. It is gold metallic embroidery on royal blue velvet. Haven't photographed the finished bag yet, but I'll get it done before sending off.
There are 3 layers of stitching. I took photos of the process too.

Thanks to an old craft book scan on etsy, I found a secret! They use 2 layers of organdy to stitch on velvet. The top layer is stitched on with the design drawn on. I used metallic gold ink on black chiffon, then basted another layer on the back. All 3 layers go in the hoop. The organza layer on top is cut away and the threads pulled out after the first  layer of trace stitching  and a layer of fill in cotton is done.
First do a trace stitch, to keep drawing in place. Then, go over the work with gold cotton floss, filling in design. Cut away and remove top chiffon or organza, leaving layer on back of velvet. This stays in permanently. You can trim away excess later.  Finally, a layer of chain and satin stitches is used. I used DMC floss in the chunky hank. The fine floss was too thin. I split the floss in half- into 3-strand sections. Do not cut any longer than 14 inch pieces, and use thread wax. It is very important to wax metallic floss. It will not dull it. Try it! You will find stitching with metallic floss so much easier!

KLKing, thanks for the info on the stitching. I love to learn about hand embroidery.

KStarr, the hedgehogs are adorable and the white square is elegant.
