I didn't do any sort of special pattern, since I'm not an experienced knitter and it was my first pair, but I did choose a self-patterning yarn, which I think turned out pretty well. I made these for indigo_roses in the Random Swap.

The part that looks narrow is where the heel is. I couldn't find a good way to photograph them without putting them on, and since they weren't for me, I didn't want to try them on, haha.

They're not. The heel is where the first teal row is up from the top.

Nice work for your first pair.  Be aware:  sock knitting is extremely addictive!

Those are so nice.  I particularly love the Fairisle effect of the self patterning yarn.  I just cannot knit Fairisle although I would love to. I can't get the tension right.  Self-patterning yarn is obviously the answer. Yours turned out so very well I can hardly believe it is your first pair.

Love the self patterning yarn! I'll have to get some of that for my next pair.. or maybe the pair after my next.. as you can tell they are addicting. I'm just about finished my first pair too!

I can't believe these are your first pair! I'm so intimidated by heel shaping, but you've encouraged me to give sock knitting another go!
