My son has all of a sudden decided to start putting toys in his mouth.

And I have been coveting a lot of painted peg people on the internets lately.

Because I am afraid to use paint on his toys - what kind of paint is *safe* for kids, anyway? - I used my woodburner.

Warning: I am a SUPER newbie at this whole woodburning thing.  AND I can't draw.

Here goes.  The Peg People

The live in a bird house

It is so soothing burning the images onto the wood - (that I drew on beforehand). I love the smell and I love the tedious nature of it.

I hope you like it!

I think that is a lovely idea.  it is such a nice plain simple toy that he can use his imagination with and play in so many ways. And how nice that it is safer this way too.  I'm glad you had fun doing them. I'm sure he will have a lot of fun playing with them.

simplicity is beautiful!

most craft paints are safe and non-toxic these days (ha, I seem to eat glue or paint daily...Grin), but I actually prefer the nice wood showing on your pieces!

lovely little house...and it makes a child use his/her imagination instead of having a pre-scripted story set up by a lot of toy manufacturers and Disney Grin

That is awesome!  You might have yourself a a new little career! Grin

A lot of people are getting back to simplicity and the basics...sometimes all of this high tech stuff just gets overpowering...

I am sure that it is good for your child and BONUS---good for you!  A calm mom is a happy mom...Wink

Hey! These look so awesome. Just curious, how did you make the people? Did you buy and carve a wood block? Or is there some place that sells that shape?
Thanks!
