last fall, we sent a stuffed animal to our penpals in russia, and they sent us a matryoshka doll to visit for the year. we showed her around town taking lots of pictures, and this summer it was time to make her travel journal to send back to share her adventures.
Instead of going to the store for the perfect stickers and embellishments, i dug into my scrapbooking stash, tried some new techniques, and created my own embellishments. It was really fun trying things in a new way.
for the cover, i started with a 3 ring binder with a cool print. I found a us map online and printed it onto cardstock. the doll, flowers, and compass were drawn on white paper, cut out and decopauged onto the binder.
this page is a state map i found online.http://makezine.com/craft/how-to_matryoshka_doll_fold_ou/
the doll was from a folding card pattern that i cut out watercolored, and used for journaling.
For the next page, i drew a background and a school bus, and layered pictures and journaling about parts of our town.
I had lots of pictures at the lake, one of our favorite spots, so i created a collage with a flap to show more pictures, and hidden journaling
For the spring page, i had some fun with photography, and croping the pictures, then drew a large flower with colored pencil
my kids also created pages to include. we're still waiting for them to recieve it as overseas shipping takes awhile. now i have some new ideas to us in our family scrapbooks.
