Fiber Friday November 11th 2011

Hi, I'm new but have been lurking for awhile. I initially came into the forum for sewing ideas, but kept winding up in fiber arts eyeballing all of the goodies over here!

I'm so excited to be able to contribute to Fiber Friday. I just purchased a drop spindle and spun my first merino last night. It turned out to be 33yds and my arm was sore but I was happy. It's messy and uneven and resembles every other first try that I've seen here, but it's like a child and it's mine and I love it.

Great spin!!  I love first spins, such a wonderful joy they bring.   I do have a bunch done, but no pictures of the yarn.  But i will post pics of my dye jobs

Belladune, Those locks are gorrrrrrrrrrgeous! And so many pretty rovings, too. Can't wait to see what you will do with them.

I am working on some unexciting Brown Sheep mill ends in brownish tones for man gifts. Don't have pictures, but I can't wait to get back to my bright colors and sparkles and spin those instead. The spinning is going fast, but I'm not feelin' the colors.

Bella, you've inspired me more than you'll ever know. Your stuff is stunning and I just want to jump in it. And the same holds true for yours LL. Ya'll do beautiful work and I've been watching. And now I'm itching for more, you know, that itchy wool kind of itch. I think once this stuff gets under your skin it doesn't go away. I have a stash of roving that I'm holding back for some wet felting but I fear it may not make it!

Awe! thank you, Beachpeach!  But don't forget, we came from where you are right now, and were likewise inspired by others!  It was a huge revelation to me when I discovered that you could actually spin your own yarn... I haven't looked back.  And I can't see me never doing this.  I hope it's the same way for you!   And as to that roving... you can always get more!

This is called "evil enabling"! I have birthday money that is getting ready to roll in and I'm going to buy http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kromski-Harp-32-Rigid-Heddle-Loom-/290548949386?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a611218a! It's the best price I could find on this size and I'm chomping at the bit for it. I figure in this case bigger IS better!  As for the spinning, who knows, I may be in the market for a wheel soon.

I love the Kromski Harp ... wanted it for years and years, but a 4 heddle table loom at an exceptionally good price made an appearance first.
