While we are waiting for the outcome of Monie's awesome partnering powers; I have a question. It is kind of weird asking since it is not Thanksgiving yet, but here goes...

What is your favorite Yuletide carol?

I am trying to convince my household to go caroling, so that got me wondering. Smiley

We are no longer the knights who say ni! We are now the knights who say ekki-ekki-ekki-pitang-zoom-boing! ~Monty Python

I like "The Holly and the Ivy", which is so blatantly Pagan that the interposed lines about Mary and Jesus seem somehow charmingly indulgent. "Good King Wenceslas" is beautiful and very moving (but I find it a bit tiring to sing). "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" is lovely and easy to sing. "Silent Night" is probably the most beautiful of the Christmas carols, and if its unequivocal Christian Nativity lyric bothers you, you can always sing it in the original German ("Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht") which is even lovelier. Other favourites would be "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and of course "Deck the Halls". "O Holy Night" is great to listen to, but you need to be a real singer or it trips you up half-way through.

I used to go carolling with friends and haven't for years. I miss it, even though I can't really sing at all. So do work hard to persuade your husband, and if he won't budge, find some other people to go out carolling with.

What is your favorite Yuletide carol?

I love The Wexford Carol. Yes, its christian but its sooo pretty. Also In The Bleak Midwinter, its got pagan undertones, Good King Wenceslas, I Saw Three Ships, The Holly and the Ivy and Go Tell It On The Mountain. Oh and I almost forgot "O Tannenbaum"!

I don't care if it's christian to me there is something so deeply spiritual about music that's meant to worship. Lots of it has this flow that is hard to describe; that said most modern christian "rock" and "pop" lacks this harmony.

And on the partners good things come to those who wait.... but waiting is so hard Roll Eyes
