For Hallowe'en this year I decided to be a Calavera Catrina, a sort of full-body version of the traditional Sugar Skulls made for Dia De Los Muertos. I started planning this costume in July, since I'm so obsessed with Hallowe'en costumes

Sorry in advance about the picture quality, I had to use my cell phone

The base is an old white, 80's style prom dress from the thrift store that I re-purposed for my costume. After converting the horribly poofy sleeves to off-the-shoulder sleeves, I dyed it yellow with turmeric. At this point, it looked *far* too much like Belle's dress in Beauty and the Beast, so on a whim, I ripped out the petticoat, tattered some of the lace, and put it in the washer with 1/4 a package of black RIT dye and it came out this lovely but rather unexpected moss green color. I absolutely adore it.

The necklace is made from fabric from my scraps bin, as well as some beads I got for my birthday and a button that fell off an old cardigan of mine. The button was coated with glow-in-the-dark nail polish.

The earrings were made from Sculpey. After baking I painted the eye sockets black and coated them in more glow-in-the-dark nail polish.
The gloves were from the thrift store, and I had intended to paint skeleton arms on them, but I ran out of time and funds :/

The make up was done by myself and took about an hour to finish up properly, mostly because I was using dollar store face paint and liquid eyeliner. This particular picture was taken after I went to a Hallowe'en dance on campus, so the make-up on my lips is a little smudged from eating
