So I started this baby blanket at the beginning of Sept I believe. I just finished it last night and boy am I glad to have it done! The baby shower is sunday and I cannot wait to give it to the mom! It is for my db's close friend who just got married and is having a baby at the end of the year. I originally posted on here to find the pattern for it, I saw a pillow at a few local fairs over the summer and I reallllly wanted to know what it was, I fell in love with the pattern that is for sure! Off to pictures!

In comparison with a cd... This shows the stitch detail on one side...

This shows the stitch detail on the other side...

This shows how different the sides are...

And this shows how on the one side it looks like ridges..

I am SOOO happy to have this done. It was a labor of love for me. I usually procrastinate and don't get things done on time... Well I managed to get it done 3 days before the shower! Yay!!

C&C welcome!  Grin

Beautiful! (And big!!!) The mom is going to love it. I wish I was that coordinated/talented! A sewing machine and a paint brush is all I can work! Smiley

@BoatsandSews I wanted it to be big enough for them to use for multiple things. Covering the car seat, sleep time, cuddle time... and such. I wanted to make it larger but I was running out of yarn and really couldn't afford to buy anymore. I used 1.5 skeins of the red, yellow and blue and like 3 of the white. I did 2 complete rows of the wheel on the outside plus a half of a row to make it look square. That and it was getting too big to carry with me everywhere to work on!

I think total it took me 20 hours to make. I watched many episodes of Dexter, Law and Order, and a few movies plus odds and ends of time here and there crocheting when I could. I was really worried I wouldn't be able to get it done on time!

Thank you for the compliments. I am really proud of myself for finishing it!

Gorgeous work! Do you have a pattern for it? It looks like a granny square but then upon closer inspection, I'm not so sure! I love it regardless. Awesome job. Smiley

This is so beautiful. I love this pattern I have seen it as well but not come across the pattern before.
Also just a hint if you dont already. When I give a home made blanket I usually put on the card washing instructions. For some reason people always wonder how to wash a homemade blanket.
Thanks for sharing this is so fun. And I am sure she will love wrapping the new baby in this.

Thank you! That is a great idea beth8144... I didn't even think about that!

I actually got the pattern by posting on the questions board on here, it is called the Catherine's Wheel stitch. There is many different ways to do it. This one is done by the center out, by making the white that is in the middle first then building on it. I had a hard time understanding the pattern when I read it so I found a youtube video that someone made with step by step instructions. I found it was much easier to follow that. Here is a link to it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x745ZeNbVFM

In the pattern you work the first of the 2 rows in each color in back post to give it the ridged effect. You don't have to do that though. I am working on a scarf using the Catherine's wheel stitch that I am not working with the back post. Cheesy Hope that helps!
