Buried in my black heart

I've had this 22" by 24" canvas roaming around the house for a few years now. There is a story behind it but I will spare you. There have been several different visions for it, and the last one was inspired by this wedding print. I was convinced at one point I was going to embroider it on there so I had a copy of it tucked into the back of the canvas. Yeah. Never happened. Lately it has been in arms reach of the kids, which combined with the terror of just floating around my house in general meant it wasn't in the greatest condition. So I decided that could be part of the glory of the finished product. I scratched the idea of embroidering it and got a knife, a needle and thread, some really strong tea, and went to work. I started this Monday.

Here the canvas is prepared. Holes ripped, sewn, stained.

I diluted the paint with tea a couple times. Here is after the first dilution was applied. I love how the spots that already had tea stains resisted. Also, the embroidery floss sucked up the paint.


Finished! I was thinking about roughly painting a border with the first dilution, but after I started adding drop and splatters of the different dilutions I decided it doesn't need it. What do you guys think?

It was hard because I had to paint it all while it was flat because the paint was so thin it would run off the canvas. Also, I'm not a painter! C&C welcome! Thanks!

This is a really interesting piece, jexxi. The muted colors and stitched textures gives it a dark vibe... but cool, very cool. Nice work.

Well, Thank you Limey. I guess dark is kind of what I was going for. I think what attracted me to it most was that it didn't have to be perfect. Imperfection was kind of the goal and that's really good for a perfectionist like me, if that makes sense.

Observation, not complaint:
It amuses me how something that can completely overrun everything else in one's life and be that person's ultimate passion and life spark (even for just 2 days) can get only 1 comment from another member on this amazing community, but then something that is simple and posted more just for the sake of making a post (like the cake I decorated for Cake Decorating Day) can get a whole conversation going with multiple people.

Really, this is an observation. I don't make things for recognition. This piece is all for ME. I hung it in my room and it is the first thing I focus each morning and the last thing I focus on each night. It still astounds me that I MADE THAT! Maybe it's not that great but like I said it amuses and amazes me.

Your observation is quite true! and i just want to say that i fell in love with this art work. it gave me a feeling of heartbreak and at the same time.. hope. like there's always hope and growth after a heartbreak. LOVE IT!!!!
