Petticoat tutu for kids.  I'm actually making two of these. Green and burgundy. Both are made from: tulle, satin, ribbon, and elastic.  The process take a while because there are not a whole lot of shortcuts, but this one came out really cute.

Lovely, I just bought a bolt of white tulle at a thrift store and this would be perfect

Very cute!  I would love to make one for my friend's daughter but the tutorial scared me a little...I'm not sure I understand the "gathering" bits.  Embarrassed

Ohhh, I suppose I assumed that everyone would understand about gathering. Here are some instructions on gather: http://www.ehow.com/how_2107444_gather-ruffles.html  But basically, you run a basting stitch along the edge you want to gather.  I usually set my tension to 1 or 2. Don't backstitch.  Then, you hold one of the end threads and gently push the the tulle away from the end. Hence, "gathering" it.  Here's an explanation with pictures http://hungryzombiecouture.blogspot.com/2010/05/gathers-magic.html
