ETA 10/31/11 - I finished the big one! It still needs a frame, but it's done! Take a look! Here's the little painting and the big one together, for size reference:

For the first time ever, I am painting an actual painting, and I am super excited! I usually stick to pencil and marker, but thought it might be fun to try Lichtenstein's graphic style. So I decided to paint a big portrait of my friend and art tutor. However, before I started the big one, I did this small 1'x1' version to get the colors down and to make sure I could even pull it off. So, this is the small version!

This small one is oil, acrylic, and Sharpie on artist board. Because of the smaller size of the canvas, the benday dots seem bigger than on the actual full size painting.

As a bonus, here's a shot of the big painting, which is still a WIP that I look forward to posting when it's complete! The big painting is 3'x3'.

And for those of you who are all about the process, here's a pic of me applying the benday dots to the large painting. Basically, I bought a perforated sheet metal screen from Amazon (this one is 1/16" dots) and then stenciled on the dots with a stencil brush in oil paint.

Comments are appreciated! Also, I really want to decorate the living room of my new apartment around this painting, so suggestions for furniture colors and accessory ideas are welcome too!

I love the smaller one!  I think the big benday dots are amazing.  You'll have to post the big one when it's done so I can see that one, too!

I know it's been a while, but I never got around to posting what it looks like now that it's all framed and done! Hanging on my living room wall:

And here's a big old detail shot, just because:
