Talk Science to Me!

Earlier this year, I landed my first career-esque job, and thus got my first apartment all of my own, with no roommates nor boyfriends with which I must share my space.  The first thing I did was get a cat, because how can it be home without a cat?

Then I started decorating.

I'm a huge nerd, so the living room quickly took on a space theme. I started by ordering some prints of Hubble pictures (which are, after all, public domain):

And then decided I needed to make some pillows to match.  I went to Spoonflower, and with some tweaking and poking about soon came back with this fabric, which quickly became a pair of space-nerd-tastic 16" throw pillows:

Reversible, of course:

The cat approves as well.

Love this space!! Your cat is great too. Where did you order the photos from? I remember sending a letter to NASA in the third grade in order to get some... but I think I'm too old for that now :p

What a gorgeous idea! The pictures you chose are beautiful... and your cat is sooooo fluffy! Want to snuggle.

Hubble Photos (and most government photo archives, which tend to be public domain what with being taken with public tax dollars) are available in high resolution from an online archive.  I just downloaded them, then made prints through a photo-printing service (snapfish, in my case).

Thanks all!

So awesome! I believe it was the Atlanta Aiport that has massive prints of the Hubble Images as you head towards baggage claim. Your pillows reminded me of that!

I love your pillows and your prints!  Despite having all (or at least a whole lot) of the NASA photos saved on my computer (and them frequently being my background image) I never even considered printing them.  I might just need to head to a print shop soon though!

Oh and your cat is truly adorable, I love big furry kitties that expose their bellies when they sit.  ^_^

Ill weave your names into my ribcage; lock your hearts inside my chest.
Regain the passion I once carried; do away with all the rest.
I tore the sickness from your bodies; smashed its head against the bricks.
I made a castle from its bones that you may always dwell in it.

How did I miss these?  They are so awesome!  The very idea warms my nerdy heart.

I've been searching for decent looking space fabric forever...never even thinking to just print my own.  Duh!  Hubble is my favorite!  Thanks for sharing.  Smiley
