Another integral part of kitsch - the black velvet painting.  Whether it be Elvis (i hope!), Jesus, a sad hobo clown, or a howling wolf, black velvet paintings rule.  So when I found this landscape velvet painting, I knew it had to become a dress.  Paired with 1970s silver metallic lurex!  It's my first cocktail dress in a while, what do you guys think?

Honestly I really dislike velvet paintings, but I am now of the firm believe that they should all become dresses because that is gorgeous. Well done

This is one of those projects I see and immediately jump out of my seat so I can run to the thrift store to find the stuff to make it... but then I slowly sit back down as I realize I could never do it as good as the original, haha.

So I guess what I'm saying is I love this!

Love the bodice. Best use of a velvet painting I've seen.

I ended up parting with it, but I think dry cleaning/or spot cleaning would be the only way!  Definitely would NOT want to submerge that baby in water, ha!

Wow do you ever have a good eye for seeing potential, I would never have thought of using a velvet painting this way! The dress is gorgeous, fits like a dream, and I love the skirt fabric. Beautiful work!
