so i've been mulling this idea over for a bit, bear with me . . .

almost everybody on here has a craft that they are great at (veteran) and crafts that they want to learn (newbies).  i purpose a swap where everyone gets to learn a new craft!

swappers would be paired up by the crafts that they are veterans and newbies to.  for instance, a knitter who wants to learn about origami pairs up with a paper artist who wants to learn to knit.  pairing might be a little tricky, but some could be interested in several new crafts or offer expertise in more than one craft.

crafting time would be 4 weeks (1 month) and during that time each would make 1 medium of their veteran craft and 1 small of their newbie craft.  during the month they would be encouraged to help each other out, ask questions, etc.  at the month's end everyone sends their med and small to their partner and the swap gallery is encouraged to offer additional comments on the progress of your new craft.

what do y'all think?  i would love to learn a new craft like this, but am i the only one?

I love this idea! It has a lot of potential, especially for those of us who would love to learn several different types of crafts. I can definitely see it becoming a popular swap theme.

yay!  i new i couldn't be the ONLY one.  trying to come up with a list of crafts . . .

sewing
embroidery
felting (wet)
felting (needle)
kniting
crochet
spinning
paper crafts (scrapbooking, origami, altered books, decoupage, etc)
paper making
stenciling/screen printing
pattern making
edible art (cake decorating)
drawing
painting (faux)
painting (fine art)
ceramics
weaving
dying
jewelry/bead making
polymer clay
upcycled crafts
airbrushing
quilting

i am inclined to provide the list and ask each participant to list those they would consider themselves a veteran in, and those they would like to be a newbie in, in order to pair people up.

come on, folks!  give a girl some feedback!

I agree that this would make a grand NY resolution swap --

There have been DIY kit swaps before and generally I think folks there
have posted crafts they would consider themselves an expert and
request kits for crafts that are new to them,
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=359936.0
 but
it seems like you are going with a different angle than just a kit,
and it sounds really interesting!

i think everyone would be responsible for getting their own supplies, so no kits.  i never like making a kit because i cannot know what basic supplies they have, like if it requires a hot glue gun for a step, do i provide one?  bleck.  plus, many people already have these "kits" for crafts they would like to learn but are still overwhelmed.

i am so pleased that y'all are interested.  i am planning on sign-ups starting jan 1!  happy new year!
