Since my friend down the street just got one, it looks like I might be seeing http://hipsterjew.com/2010/03/21/sid-roth/ this book in the mail soon.

I love the look of book art, but tend to feel like it's a waste, that nothing I could create would be worth destroying a book's readability.

Well, this one I'm more than willing to chop to bits and recycle if it doesn't end up pretty. Only, I'm not sure how to even attempt something pretty.

I like the altered book journals, but they leave too much of the writing intact. Any one have any folded book tutorials or paper sculpting advice?

What kind of book art did you have in mind?  I tear up books, but I use books that are falling apart anyway.  I get them from garage sales or library sales.

If you want to turn a book into an ab journal, you can gesso or simply paint over the printed text and then have your way with the created space.

I mean the torn up sort of art.

Mind you, since the book hasn't appeared yet, we might not be on their evangelism list.
