has anyone ever considered putting a photo-escrow system in place to limit flaking?

if swap participants were required to send photos of their crafts to the organizers (and have their partners do the same) before sending, there would be a lot less potential for sending out items without receiving anything in return.

just a thought.

I'm not sure a photo of crafted items would mean the package actually got sent? Would still need dc and/or receipt for international I would think.

And would the organizers then have to judge (by the photo) if the package met swap requirements etc?

Also, not all of us have digital cameras. I am never able to take photos, but I have also never flaked on a swap.

kwiltykate - that's absolutely true, just because you have a picture of an item doesn't mean it was sent. Smiley

well, i always assumed flakers hadn't actually crafted, because why would you bother to make the stuff and not send?
but that is a good point about people not having cameras.

there are a ton of AWESOME swappers on craftster.. i just wish i could do something about the number of partners who aren't as considerate. sigh.

I don't think people always intend to flake.  I'm sure there have been instances where swappers put a lot of time and energy into a swap package only to have life hit them in the face and they are unable to put to the finishing touches on what they have made.  Swapping just becomes the last priority on their list.

Also, who would the organizers send pictures of their finished craft to?  It's not unusual for an organizer to go MIA.

Not to say that I've flaked, but I've had to send late once when I was going through a divorce.  I made sure to tell my partner and the organizer, but I admit that I wasn't good on the communication.  I had the stuff crafted, I just couldn't send it at the time.  So that kind of re-inforces that just because it's crafted doesn't mean it was sent.  I did send, btw.  :-)

I think a good way to avoid the whole flaking issue is to 1) Read previous feedback!  Just because it says "positive" doesn't mean there's not a side note saying "sent late with no communication" or "sent partial package," etc.  2) If your swappers don't post actively in the thread, PM them to nudge them along.  If they are going to flake, at least you can find out asap to get a swap angel.
