A friend wanted me to make something for her sister that was subtly halloweeny/fall and practical/useful. This pair of Quilted leaf hotpads is what I came up with. What she doesn't know is that I also made 3 more: one for her, one for her mom, and one for me. The other three won't be given out until her sister's package is sent so that she doesn't try to put them in there and does keep them for herself.  They are machine pieced and quilted. I used two layers of cotton batting as the insulating layer. The backing fabric was cut big enough to fold over to the front and use as binding. The edges aren't perfect and if you look really closely there are a couple of tucks in the fabric where one bit was slightly bigger than it should have been. To me these just help to make it look hand made instead of mass produced.

Here's the pics

They look really good! Did you make the pattern yourself?  Smiley

I have seen this leaf block else where but i did sketch it out on graph paper and figure out what size and shape of pieces to cut up to put it all together. I actually got it a bit wrong and had to cut the triangle pieces smaller after I'd stitched them into a square because they weren't right for the squares I had cut. I guess I miscalculated the seam allowance a bit.
