I love hexagon quilts - my mum made me one when I was little, and I loved the colours - just a swhame she used 'crimpaline' (?sp) - a type of nylon/man-made fabric, so it wasn't a good one to snuggle into Sad I remember all the cutting of the papers and fabric, and the HOURS of hand sewing, but great if you haven't got access to machine, and she used card (old birthday cards etc) now I would use much thinner paper - it'd be much easier!
Oh, how lovely to have one made by your mum! I love hexies, but never thought I'd make one! these days they sell little cardboard hexies, so that saves a LOT of time and effort. Also, there are little fabric glue sticks to help wrap the fabric around the cardboard before you sew.

Well, I now have 95 of the flowers, and I've started to sew them together, so I will update soon to show them being pieced together.

Thanks everyone for your kind and super-supportive comments! I'm officially chuffed!

I just found a HUGE bag of these that my great grandmother made, though they have an extra row on the outside.. I think  i have enough for two king size quilts!

I love your colors! Much prettier than the ones I have!

I really love this. I'm getting ready to start a Gradmother's Flower Garden quilt which uses these hexagons. The paper piecing intimidates me but I'm going to conquer it because I want one so badly!

Your version of this looks amazing! Very inspiring. Smiley
