it wasn't difficult at all.  the instructions were very good.  what I will do differently next time is use some heavy sew-on interfacing on the actual bag itself (all interfacing is used in the handles and pockets).

the fabric is stain-treated "outdoor" fabric, although it's not stiff like some kinds, so it should hold up well (hopefully!).

Oh I like this!  Is this a current or vintage pattern?

Love your fabric, where do you get the treated fabric like that?

I am thinking longer handles and a couple of pockets on the side and I have a pretty nifty but stylish looking diaper bag >>> preggers mama with a toddler under 2, so I am ALWAYS looking for nifty diaper bags! Cheesy

Do you thing it could accommodate pockets on the side (maybe even making the bag a little wider) and maybe a large pocket on the/across the back?

Thanks so much for posting!

It's a current pattern; I got it at Hancock fabrics a few weeks ago.  I got the fabric there, too, in the remnants.

Yes, the handles should be longer, I agree.  There is a large inside pocket in the lining, as well.  I'm not so sure about side pockets; currently the depth of the bag is 3.5 inches.  You could make it a little deeper and add them.  The back would definitely accomodate a pocket.
