It took me forever and a day (Or so) but I finished my couch in thrifted jeans.  I'm so proud of myself!

Arm detail

Figured out the piecing here in the back that unfortunately no one will see.

Thanks for looking.  I hope this is the right place to post this!

pretty great...I would love to do something like this in the band room...I bet it will be very sturdy and almost indestructible!

Wow--looks like you spent a lot of time cutting and piecing, but it turned out really well!

I actually like all the little piecing bits on back and also the side arms...great place for the remotes! Grin

thanks for sharing!

Oh my goodness. That is amazing.  Such a great idea too.  The denim is hardwearing enough for upholstery fabric and I love the shades of blue and the way you have kept the pockets on the sides for storage.

This rocks!

I love the stripes that run all along the back of the couch.  Super cool!

I agree about the stripes - fab! It looks really good, well done. Lets hope young friends don't hide 'surprises' in the pockets!

Wow, so much work, it turned out great!  I agree that the way you worked with the different shades of denim is really lovely.  It's so cute and funky and I can picture all kinds of pillows to go with it, too!

Um yeah that pretty much rocks. I have a ton of old jeans I need to do something with. I was gonna make a cloak but this is on the verge of beating that idea.

If I was still in my out of sanity hippie phase 7 years ago ( I have always been a bit hippie/gothic/punky, being that I was born in the early 70's :p)  I would have so copied this idea! I totally love the pockets on the side arms! Great for books, controllers, and 20 ounce soda bottles:p

Wow this is just amazing. It must have taken forever.
I love the back and the pockets in particular.

I have only made cushions with old denim but this has really inspired me to think big!

Thanks all.  It was really fun.

It actually took a year but a good six months of that was me cogitating.

It looked and felt like procrastination but ended up being for the best.  I came up with the piecing idea towards the end and finished that part in about a week.

I'm becoming a denim junky and am starting a new quilt with it.  Smiley

This is such a good idea! I have like a ton of old denim lying around but, alas, no sofa. I particularly like the pockets in the side, you could use them for magazines, remote control etc...

How did you do it without it killing your sewing machine?

I did kill one sewing machine.  It was a Kenmore from the 70's that I paid $10 for.  But it's replacement, a $40 Necchi Mira I found on Craigslist could totally handle it.  It's from 1953 and I love it so much.
Older sewing machines are so much better than the new ones and I could go on and on about that and it gets boring after awhile...probably.

But it is so true! My mom's machine is an Elna from the 50s, and it is a tank. The foot is almost the only plastic on it, it weighs a ton, but it has sewn all kinds of things -- and survived a scalding water flood -- with nary a problem.

That's amazing - I can't imagine the time and patience that it took to complete it.  What a great idea! And the pockets are also so functional...I could totally see myself stuffing things into them...snacks, cross word puzzles, flask of whiskey - and forgetting they're there. You must be so happy with the result.

Has anyone suggested embroidering "remote" on the appropriate pocket?

This is sooo awesome!
