My friends dad passed recently. She sold his tools/gear from his car repair company. She allowed me a preview before the sale...yeah...tools!
In the corner, dusty and rusty were old car jacks.
I loved the 50's vibe. They could be 'useful'.
I brought 'em home, cleaned 'em, primed and spray painted 'em.

A few weeks later, another garage sale find...a 1"thick piece of glass for $20.
Popped that onto the car jacks and..viola'..my new coffee table!
I am so pleased with the transformation.

Gotta tell ya... I'm a loooong time lurker and love all the crazy ideas here. Y'all are inspiring...otherwi se, I never woulda considered this recycling opportunity!
C&C appreciated!!

I love industrial -- but how did you connect the glass to the car jacks... and prevent them from scratching the glass?

It looks like the glass is heavy enough not to slide around. Anyway, I love it! It looks like something the they would do on that show Picker Sisters on Lifetime.

re: how to keep glass on car jacks...
I tried the plastic round dots normally found under glass tops. And they kept popping out. That glass is HEAVY!! Takes two to lift; those dots had no chance.

I finally cut up black felt strips and glued them to top of the jacks...just to protect the glass. So far, no deviations from mid-line. No scratches.

In the meantime...my girlfriend's mom (married to the car-guy) passed yesterday...funny how long-married partners rarely survive >6mos from each other. Her mom DID get a chance to see the upcycle..and she was pleased and laughed about "that clever younger generation..."
(uh, I am over 50yo...!)
