It would have the same sort of run-down where you'd have the option to send a small container equaling 2 cups of whimsies, or a big one equal to 5 cups of whimsies, with a minimum of 3 crafted whimsies.

I'd be able to get this started ASAP if there's enough interest, otherwise I could open sign ups beginning of October. When would be good for everyone?

I went to the dollar store today (with hubs and kids in tow... talk about nuts) and I grabbed a few sweet things for a whimsy jar.  They are things anyone would use/have a use for.   So with that said, when do we start? Wink

ME! ME! ME!!!!

So now that I have expressed my interest, I have a couple of questions, exactly what are whimsies (i've seen that it's mostly like buttons, and misc little trinkets but what exactly is a jar of whimsies), and are whimsies just things that you find around the house or can you actually purchase whimsy like items to put in the jar??

I think I'll open up sign ups Oct 1 - 15 which gives 2 weeks to join, and then a month to gather/collect/craft before send outs....soooo send outs would be Nov 15. Sound good?

Tygermane - there is no exact definition of a whimsy. Generally speaking it is small objects like beads, buttons, charms, toys, but certainly is not limited to that. Think keys, miniature figures, etc. Really the possibilities are endless.

A couple of websites to get an idea of what I'm talking about:
http://www.tinythingsarecute.com/
http://www.skybluepink.com/index.html
http://mantofev.com/embellishments.html

Also, just around town you can find great whimsy treasure! Dollar stores, or the equivalent are usually gold for whimsies (especially around holiday time i.e. fun Halloween/xmas stuff), as well as opt shops, thrift stores, etc. They're everywhere when you start looking for them! Look through all the past galleries to get an idea - and you don't have to buy all your whimsies, a lot of time when you start looking around your house you'll find more than you even imagined you'd have.

The term "jar of whimsies" is used because in the beginning of this swap generally most people sent their whimsies in a jar or similar container. Though I think you'll noticed in the later rounds that definition has changed dramatically and really a "jar" any sort of container that will hold the whimsies, and can be made of just about any material.

Hope that helps!  Smiley
