I'm Jessica, and I live in Ontario, Canada with a giant tabby. I love planning gifts, gift making, and gift shopping. . . but I don't have a much of a list of people to buy for! So I'd love to prepare some really great gifts for the people I do have, and I've joined this swap to help do just that, since they all appreciate handmade things (well, except maybe my grandpa. But even he appreciates handmade edibles).
I've added to my list this time around. You'll see some new general Christmas items under "Sewn" and "Pick a Technique"THE LIST: Jewellery Etc- sparkly necklaces and/or bracelets for Mom
-
sparkly or beady headbands/head things for sister [note she has super-short hair) Thanks klg_jlg!
Knit/Crochet-
cozy accessory (scarf, other type of neckwarmer-type-thing, mitts, sweater, some sort of clothing piece) for sister *beige/off-whites/browns/greys are best Thanks mama24boyz!
Sewn Stuff- fabric gift bags
Bath & Body Etc - pretty looking & smelling (floral, vanilla) soaps/lotions/bath stuff for Mom
- manly soap (not beer flavoured) for dad
- nice smelling candles for Mom
Foodie- tasty sweet things (e.g. dessert in a jar, fancy jams – as long as it would last until Christmas) for Mom
- food prep in a jar (meal type thing) for Grandpa
Pick a Technique!- ornaments for my Christmas tree – I recently moved out on my own and so far only have one pack of the vintage ornaments I’m trying to collect – I like all colours, vintage-looking ornaments (along the lines of
these, etc) , other traditional ornaments & themes, somewhat creepy ornaments (bats, skulls, B-movie monsters) or other interesting ornaments . . . not so much a fan of modern, super-religious, or excessive amounts of Santas
- other Christmas décor – my mom has this porcelain mini-Christmas tree (handpainted in the 70’s!) that lights up, would love something like that – otherwise, something that hangs on a wall/door/etc or something that sits on a table (not a stocking though)
THE PEOPLE: MOM – Mid 50’s, lives in a townhouse with my sister. Teaches ESL to adults and really loves it.
Likes: sparkle, nice smelling things, The Shopping Channel, books/groups about separation/divorce, leopard print & glossy red in housewares (not clothing!), riding on backs of motorcycles, tea (with goodies)
Dislikes: non-pretty things, cooking, cleaning
SISTER – 21, lives with mom. Graphic designer (starts a new job at a loose tea company on Tuesday!)
Likes: thrifty fashion (ultra-layered, 1920’s & other vintage, gypsy-esque, cozy pieces), cooking, planning future businesses (branding studio? crepe truck?), reading (especially Agatha Christie), movies, her tuxedo cat Patches, tea
Dislikes: cake, bookmarks, bright colours
DAD – 60 (but you’d never guess), lives in the middle of nowhere on his own (and it works for him)
Likes: motorcycles (cruisers, not sport bikes), cooking, wood carving, the outdoors, reading (especially sci-fi & Westerns), fly fishing, lakes & oceans, red wine, good Scotch, travelling
Dislikes: beer, sports, cities
GRANDPA – 80’s, German, lives independently on his own
Likes: walking in the mall, Reader’s Digest, yelling at CNN, visiting the Germania Club,
Dislikes: a lot of things, getting presents (we usually go gift card or edible), cooking (well, more that he can't really cook except for turkey soup, pork hawks, and sauerkraut)
