I know this might make me somewhat of a Halloween Scrooge, but I have to admit that I get no pleasure from carving pumpkins. It's messy and time consuming, and the next day, the darn thing is always covered in ants and/or mold.

Here's my perfect solution: I got one of the faux pumpkins at Michaels (half off right now!) and painted a crazy face on it. While I was there, I also purchased a wooden candlestick, which I also painted, to serve as a base. After I painted both pieces, I gave him a crepe paper collar and glued the pieces together with E6000.

I used watered down paint to age his face so it doesn't look too new:

I used ink to age the candlestick. I couldn't get a clear picture of it, because my camera kept wanting to focus only on that big ole' pumpkin head, but here's the candlestick alone:

Happy Halloween!

I love the idea that you painted one of those pumpkins. I bought a couple a few years ago and carved them, and HATED them. (I ended up sending them to my sister and her husband once they bought their house and didn't have much to decorate with.) And with the base and that funky face, he reminds me of something out of the Nightmare Before Christmas. He's got kind of a Burton-esque flair to him. Smiley

Fantastic idea and execution! I love it! I'm going to have to make a few of these at different heights for a table display <3

Great grin & base!  You and I would get along very well with our taste in Halloween decorations.  I have ruined many a faux pumpkin trying to carve them, painting is definitely the way to go!  You nailed the color, he's aged perfectly.
