I started playing with jewelry bits, which then lead me to resin, that brought me to the inevitable butterfly. I coated the wings with resin and added the odd gear. Once set, I used tiny eyelets and mounted more gears. The other bits are just from junk jewelry.

I've made this other one in a different style.

I love making jewelry!

Those are really stunning. I love the idea of using real butterfly parts (as long as they are not killed for the art Tongue)

You have the perfect mix of elegant and steampunk.

Those are both lovely.Very creative and talented! I've been wanting to get into working with resin, myself. Especially the more I see pretties like these.
I found the tattered remains of a butterfly a little while ago, and gently modpodged it to the lid of a box-I'm still working on finishing it.
And yes, jewelry making *is* fun! There's nothing more fun than getting a big bag of assorted jewelry goodies from the thrift store, and wielding my pliers gleefully. Looking forward to seeing more of your creations!

These are absolutely beautiful! Now I'm going to be constantly looking at the ground (and bumpers) for pretty insects that have passed on.   Wink

Both are fantastic!  The detailed work on the first is exquisite, including the simple yet elegant design of the chain.  (For those of us not prone to finding intact but lifeless butterflies, nicely rendered paper versions should work as well.)  And I love the sort of anti-symetricality of the second one: the structure is even, but the elements on opposing sides are different.

Want. want. want. want. That is so cool, I would have never thought of using a real butterfly. I love it!
