We wish you a Frugal Christmas;
We wish you a Frugal Christmas;
We wish you a Frugal Christmas and a Frugal New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Frugality and a Frugal New Year.

Details of swap:

Details of swap:

This swap is all about living (and crafting!) frugally.  Frugal living means something different to each person, but it may include saving money by using cloth napkins, knit/crocheted dishcloths, reusable shopping bags (you save 5 cents for each bag you bring in at my grocery store!), wool dryer balls (seriously, the dryer sheets can be pricey!), reusable menstrual pads or diva cup/moon cup bag and wet bags, soap savers, homemade laundry soap, homemade bath soaks, etc.  Or it may include recipes to try out instead of eating out, a piggy bank/other way of corralling change to take to the bank instead of letting it be eaten by the couch, having a coupon organizer ... the ideas are endless!

This round will be a bit different as we're including holiday themed items in this round!  If you don't want to receive holiday items, no worries - just say so on the questionnaire!  If you do, great!  Any and all winter holidays are accepted!

For this swap, 95% of what you'll use to craft should be from your stash.  The more you use that you already have, the better!  If you absolutely must purchase something, it'd be great if you could get it at the Salvation Army/Goodwill/thrift stores or on sale.  (I don't want to say don't buy anything because I know how it feels to have everything you need except one little thing for a project.)

Crafting Requirements:

The requirements for this swap is 5 points, which will translate to one medium and three smalls OR two  mediums and one small.  If you want to do more, please talk to your partner!  Remember, this is all about frugality so do not feel obligated or pressured into sending more than the requirements.  If your partner mentions spoiling and you can't or won't, be honest!  We're all here to get a handle on saving and becoming more financially in charge of our futures, so no one is going to look down their nose at you if you don't want to or can't send more than the requirements.  Really.  Pinky promise!

For those who need a refresher, here's the Craftster guide to what constitutes each size:

By Time

-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price (though really, USE YOUR STASH!!!  The entire package should be less than a small!)
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

Communication Requirements:

Checking in on the swap thread at least once a week is required so we know you're still around and crafting!  A quick note saying that you're still working is sufficient.  Since in the last swaps we were a very chatty bunch - and not always on topic - I am requiring that every post have SOMETHING to do with being frugal, being crafty or being craftily frugal.  Also, communicating with your partner is also a necessity.  If you have consistent (and recent) dings on feedback for poor communication or sending late, I may not approve your application.  I will also note communication in feedback!

If you want to participate, PM the following information to the organizer (kaz814) and co-org (puzzler):

Please fill out the questionnaire thoroughly!  If you're unsure of what you'd like to receive, check out the list below (it's a few posts down!)  It's hard to pair partners when I don't know what sorts of things you'd like to receive or what crafts you do!  Thank you so much!!!!

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Frugal Living Swap 5
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address including the country:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?
Confirm that are at least 16 years old or, if not, that you have moderator approval(YES/NO):

What winter holiday do you celebrate?
Would you like to receive holiday-themed frugal crafts?
If yes, what sort of holiday-themed frugal crafts would you like to get?
What sort of holiday-themed frugal crafts would you not like to get?  (religious, Santas, menorahs, etc., also indicate if you prefer usable holiday crafts or if some decoration-type stuff is okay)

What are your frugal goals for your household/yourself?
Is there anything in particular you'd love to get?
What crafts would you be willing to make?
What crafts would not like to make?
Is there anything you do not want to receive?
What are your favorite colors/patterns?
What are your least favorite colors/patterns?

Some ideas of what people can craft for the frugal household/crafter ...

Budgeting
- calendar for when bills are due to avoid paying late charges
- calendar for when library books are due to avoid paying late fees
- checkbook cover (perhaps if it's pretty, it'll be easier to keep track of spending?)
- coin purse
- journal/book to keep a budget in
- piggy bank

Frugal Crafters
- crafting inventory (to prevent duplicate purchases)
- reclaimed yarn/fabric (how to reclaim yarn from a sweater)
- repurposed clothing
- supplies (if the sender won't use it and the receiver will - it'll be good for all!)

Frugal Gardens (growing is cheaper than buying once you've gotten started!)
- basket to collect the veggies
- crop/plant markers
- gardening bag,
- getting started kit
- planting planners
- seeds/containers
- veggie/herb kit for indoor gardening
- watering can

Frugal gift giving
- blank gift tags
- card-making kit
- DIY gift-giving kit (reusable fabric gift bags, blank notecards, blank gift tags, etc.)
- fabric gift bags
- handcrafted stamps to make personalized note cards/stationery
- handmade birthday cards
- handmade gift boxes (small ones are great made out of old holiday cards)
- handmade gift bows (out of newspaper, magazines, film ... ideas are endless)
- handmade holiday cards
- handmade other occasion cards
- newspaper gift bags
- notebook for brainstorming gift ideas (hopefully that will save us a few bucks and reduce the chances of impulse buying at the last minute.)
- personalized note cards/stationery
- pocket calendar to keep track of birthdays and to plan and post early, which would save on postage
- reusable fabric gift wrap
- stamped wrapping paper (brown paper would work well)

Frugal Gourmet
- book to plan menus (which will help eliminate eating out)
- calculator cozy (for taking to the grocery store to keep track of your purchases!)
- coupon holder (sewn and not-sewn)
- grocery list organizer to go along with the menu planning
- home-preserved jams, jellies, etc.
- mixes (for dip, bread, cookies, etc.)
- price comparison notebook (if you keep track of how much a can of tomatoes is at Store A and Store B, you'll know who has better deals - and if the "sales" are really worth it!)
- recipes (homemade bread is economical AND tasty!  Also non-meat meals cost less, too ... including ideas for leftovers, might be fun too.)
- reusable grocery/other use bags
- reusable vegetable bags

The Frugal Home
- a book of tips for the frugal crafter/homeowner
- candles - remelt the ends into a mold to form a perfectly usable new candle (just add a wick)
- clothespin bag
- DIY home repair kit (hammer, screwdriver, misc. tools, plus instructions on how to do simple home repairs)
- draft dodgers to go at doors/windows to keep out the drafts
- dryer sachets
- homemade cleaning products (or recipes for such with bottles to put them in, since the Postal Service frowns on sending most liquids ...)
- homemade laundry soap
- magnets/wall stuff to remind you to do things (turn off lights, unplug unused appliances, adjust thermostat when you won't be there, water your garden)
- reusable swiffer socks  (a sewn swiffer cover tutorial and a crocheted swiffer cover pattern)
- reusable swiffer hand duster socks
- Sock Rug
- wool dryer balls

Frugal Kids
- cloth diapers
- cloth baby wipes
- remelt the ends of crayons to make new crayons

Kitchen Frugality
- cloth napkins
- dishcloths
- drying rack for plastic bags
- jug/jar covers
- napkin rings
- pantry inventory (so you don't overbuy or worse, let something go to waste in the bottom of the fridge because you forgot you have it)
- reusable bowl covers
- reusable bread bag
- reusable lunch bag, sandwich wrap,
snack bag  (Possible off-gassing using PUL/vinyl - please discuss with your partner if you want to make that/have a problem with it!)
- reusable "paper" towels
- reusable tea bags for loose tea (made out of a fine mesh)
- tea cozy (irony optional)
- tea towels/dishtowels
- tea wallet
- utensil roll for lunchboxes (no more disposables or losing good flatware)

Personally Frugal
- cloth menstrual pads/menstrual cup bag/wet bags
- DIY first aid kit (gauze, bandages, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, etc.)
- embroidered cloth handkerchiefs
- dumbbells of some sort (filled with sand, perhaps?)
- handmade soap/bath salts (possibly with recipes)
- homemade cough drops
- handmade face scrub/astringent
- nursing pads
- reusable makeup remover pads
- reusable water bottle/carrier
- small rice/corn packs for icing/warming eyes/head
- soap saver
- tote bag for library books
- yoga mat
- washcloths

Seasonally Frugal (to save on heating bills/AC bills)
- cool pack to put in the fridge/freezer
- draft dodger
- gloves/wrist warmers to keep warm in the winter
- hair ties/headbands
- homemade hand fans
- lap quilt
- microwavable rice/corn heating bag to keep tootsies warm in bed or as a hot/cold pack
- re-conned shirts into tank tops
- rag rug
- socks/slippers to keep warm in the winter

What else?  I'd be happy to edit this list as ideas come in!
